AGRA: Fifteen people, including four children, four women, and seven men, were killed, and 14 others were injured in a head-on collision between a pick-up vehicle and a Uttar Pradesh roadways bus near Kapura intersection in Hathras on Agra-Aligarh national highway around 7.30pm on Friday.
The victims were returning from a funeral. Police and emergency services transported the injured to a district hospital.
Victims, residents of Semera village in Khandauli block of Agra, were returning home after attending last rites when the pick-up vehicle, carrying around 30-35 people, collided with a bus from Aligarh depot.
An eyewitness, Rakesh Gupta, said, “The pick-up was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it crashed into the bus coming from opposite direction.”
Hathras district magistrate Ashish Patel said, “The injured have been treated in the hospital, and bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem. Further investigation is underway.”
SP Nipun Agarwal further added, “Fifteen people died in the accident, and rescue operations are on. We are investigating the cause of the crash.”
