VIJAYAWADA: Two of YSRCP‘s 11 RS MPs – Mopidevi Venkata Ramana and Bida Mastan Rao – resigned from the House Thursday, fuelling speculation about a further erosion of the party’s position in RS within months of losing Andhra Pradesh.
MPs Golla Baburao, R Krishnaiah, Parimal Natwani, Alla Ayodhyarami Reddy, and Meda Raghunath Reddy might be next, sources said. Both BJP and TDP are said to be in touch with YSRCP MPs, offering to “accommodate” them if and when byelections are held.
Ramana said he would join TDP and fulfil his desire to work under Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu’s “visionary leadership”. He alleged that YSRCP leadership disregarded his repeated requests to retain him in the assembly, compelling him to opt for an RS berth.
Industrialist-politician Rao, who was in TDP and even represented the party in the assembly before switching sides in 2019, cited personal reasons for giving up his seat.
Sources said ex-CM Jagan Reddy’s YSRCP had been facing dissent among its MPs, leaving the door ajar for TDP to make a re-entry into the RS.
Till it held all 11 seats from AP, YSRCP was the fourth-largest party in RS after BJP, Congress, and TMC. With nine MPs left, it has dropped below DMK & AAP, who have 10 each.
Sources said the ones planning to cross over to BJP might not resign, utilising the one-third provision to split the YSRCP in the House and transition into the saffron party.
