MUMBAI: Opposing the discharge plea submitted by model Munmun Dhamecha in the 2021 cruise drugs bust case, the Narcotics Control Bureau’s SIT submitted that through a voluntary statement, she had disclosed that the five grams of charas, alleged to have been recovered from her cruise cabin, belonged to her and was thrown by her from her pocket to a table out of fear on arrival of NCB’s Mumbai team.
It was also submitted that Dhamecha had said the drugs were purchased by her in Goa and she smoked charas to overcome depression. “Above facts were corroborated by the co-passengers of the same cabin (not made accused). Further, during the forensic examination of the mobile phone of the applicant, suspicious chats and audio notes were found in which she is helping her friend in procuring drugs in Goa, wh-ich confirms that she is connected to persons involved in sale of drugs,” the SIT said.
Dhamecha was arrested on October 3, 2021 and subsequently granted bail.
“The applicant Munmun Dhamecha also disclosed that the rolling papers and filter pad, which were recovered from the luggage of Saumya Singh, were purchased by her from one local shop and were given to Saumya by the applicant. The applicant in voluntary statement dated October 3, 2021 disclosed that the five grams of charas seized by NCB Mumbai was purchased by her for her personal consumption from one peddler in Goa,” the reply said.
Seeking dismissal of the plea through which Dhamecha sought parity with Aryan Khan, son of actor Shah Rukh Khan who was dropped as accused, the reply said no complaint was filed against Aryan as no evidence could prove his involvement with the recovered six grams of charas from the possession of accused Arbaaz Merchant.
