The Nobel Peace Prize in 2024 has been awarded to the Japanese organisation Nihon Hidankyo to honour all atomic bomb survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, “for its efforts to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and for demonstrating through witness testimony that nuclear weapons must never be used again.”
This grassroots movement, made up of atomic bomb survivors known as Hibakusha, is being recognised for its commitment to creating a world free of nuclear weapons.
The Nobel committee at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences made this announcement on Friday. A total of 286 candidates were nominated for the Nobel peace prize.
