AIZAWL: At least 65 more refugees from Bangladesh‘s Chittagong Hill Tracts arrived at Lawngtlai in southern Mizoram on Sunday, taking their total number to 1,433 so far .
Officials of Lawngtlai said the refugees entered Vathuampui village in the district after a brief halt at the nearby Mautlang village around 3am on Sunday. The refugees comprise 38 males and 27 females, including children and old and ailing people.Villagers of Vathuampui notified district administration about the new entrants.
The last such influx took place on May 10 when 127 refugees entered Mizoram and took shelter in six villages – Khawmawi, Hruitezawl, Hmawngbu, Bungtlang South, Vathuampui, and Chamdur ‘P’. While 21 new entrants entered Khawmawi, Hruitezawl, Hmawngbu, Bungtlang South, and Vathuampui villages, the rest are taking shelter at Champdur ‘P’ village where they are being accommodated in the community hall.
