Gates recommends Slow Horses, a British spy series.“I binged the whole season of slow horses when it came out on Apple TV,” he says.
“I’m a huge fan of spy movies and shows. Although I like James Bond just fine, I really go for the characters who rely on their brains, aren’t especially good in a fistfight, and don’t fill out a tuxedo too well,” Gates said.
What Slow Horses is all about
Slow Horses centres around Slough House, a dead-end department within MI5, the British intelligence agency. It’s a dumping ground for talented agents who’ve made serious mistakes but haven’t been fired.
Leading this group is Jackson Lamb, played by Gary Oldman. Lamb is the antithesis of James Bond, however, he’s a brilliant leader who gets results. The show delves into the lives of other Slough House agents, each with their own flaws and strengths.
“Jackson Lamb, the lead character in the Apple TV+ series Slow Horses, is an extreme version of one of those spies. He rarely bathes. His shirt is always covered with crumbs, and he wears a stained trench coat that hasn’t been washed in years,” Bill Gates said in a blog.
“He’s a smoker and an alcoholic. He has a terrible temper and is nasty to his subordinates. He doesn’t even attempt to hide his flatulence. If you asked an AI to invent the opposite of James Bond, it would give you Jackson Lamb,” he adds.
Gates also mentions that the other characters in the series “are well fleshed out too”.
