PUNE: Amitesh Kumar, the Pune Police Commissioner, revealed on Monday that the father of the teenager allegedly involved in the Porsche Taycan crash, which left two IT professionals dead, had approached one of the doctors of Sassoon General Hospital‘s forensic department. He even offered incentives to substitute his son’s blood samples.
Notably, police have arrested Dr.Ajay Taware, the head of the Sassoon Hospital’s Forensic Medicine department, and Dr. Shrihari Halnor, the chief medical officer of the state-run hospital, for allegedly tampering with the evidence related to the minor accused.
The doctor duo was arrested on Monday for allegedly altering blood sample reports.
“We have arrested Taware and Halnor for changing the blood samples and manipulating the blood sample reports. Our investigation into the hospital’s procedures revealed the manipulation, leading to the arrests,” Amitesh Kumar said while addressing a press conference.
Kumar mentioned that the police are currently investigating the source of the blood samples that were used to replace those of the minor.
The tragic accident occurred in the early morning of May 19 in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area when a Porsche, allegedly driven by the minor at high speed, collided with a motorcycle, resulting in two fatalities.
The crime branch is currently investigating the case, and several individuals have been arrested, including the teenager’s father, a realtor, and his grandfather.
Initially, the Juvenile Justice Board had granted the teenager bail on certain conditions. However, following public outcry over the perceived leniency, the decision was reconsidered, and the teenager was remanded to an observation home until June 5.
