NEW DELHI: Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday once again claimed that Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar is not happy with ally BJP and Bihar will witness “something major” after June 4, the day Lok Sabha election results are announced.
“Ever since I made the prediction that chacha (Nitish Kumar) will take a big decision after Lok Sabha polls, he has not been going out to campaign,” Yadav said.Claiming that there’s no synergy between Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and the BJP, he said, “I have also learnt that it is the Governor who is holding meetings with officials and issuing instructions. On the election front, the BJP and the JD(U) are concentrating on their respective seats, with no synergy.”
“All these things confirm my apprehension that after June 4 Bihar is going to witness something big (kucch bada),” he said.
Former deputy CM Yadav had earlier claimed that he was getting “full support” from “uncle” Nitish Kumar, in his fight against the BJP. Yadav made the remark, in an obvious bid to drive a wedge between the newly realigned NDA partners, at a rally in Madhubani district. “Chacha (uncle) may have been hijacked by the BJP. But he taught me the importance of driving out of power those whose ascent came in 2014. Deep down, he retains the sentiment. I know his blessings are with me because I am carrying forward his fight. Just take note, he has taken ill on the very day Prime Minister Narendra Modi was to file his nomination papers. It is clear I am getting his full support,” Yadav said.
Living up to the reputation of being the “Paltu Ram”, the Nitish Kumar in January had made another political flip-flop. Nitish Kumar took oath as Bihar chief minister for the ninth time with BJP support after dumping the grand alliance with Lalu Prasad’s RJD. This was the second time in two years that the 72-year-old leader had jumped the ship.
This was the fourth time in the last 11 years that Kumar had switched political sides in the state. The JD(U) chief parted ways with the BJP for the first time in 2013 to join hands with RJD. He returned to BJP-led NDA in 2017. In 2022, he again left NDA to join the Mahagathbandhan. After nearly 18 months, he is back in NDA fold.
Kumar, who was one of the key architects of anti-BJP INDIA bloc was also upset at being sidelined by the alliance partners, particularly the Congress. With Mallikarjun Kharge being made chairman of INDIA bloc, on the proposal of Mamata Banerjee and Arvind Kejriwal, Nitish was left without any official position in the alliance.
