NEW DELHI: As Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita’s meeting Sunday with NCP-SCP chief Sharad Pawar in Pune triggered speculation in a busy election season, AAP sources said it was a “courtesy meet”. Sunita was accompanied by AAP MP Sanjay Singh. They met Pawar at his office Sunday evening. Sunita refused to speak to the media before returning to Delhi the same day.AAP has not released an official statement on the visit.
The meeting gains significance as Maharashtra is gearing up for assembly polls likely in Nov. Moreover, AAP and NCP-SCP are part of the INDIA bloc and Sharad Pawar in July joined opposition members in a protest rally organised by AAP to demand the release of Kejriwal from jail in view of his ill health.
After Kejriwal went to jail, the party made Sunita its star campaigner in Lok Sabha polls and has now put her in the role in the Haryana polls scheduled for October 1. As far as preparations for Delhi polls, scheduled for early next year, for now the focus is on padyatras being held by senior politicians and former deputy CM Manish Sisodia who is out of jail on bail. But clearly, Sunita will remain a prime star campaigner of AAP going forward too.
