AMBERNATH: Ambernath resident Bindeshwar Sharma dashed his Safari against his father’s Fortuner around 5pm on Tuesday, and ended up injuring five, two of whom are battling for their lives in a hospital. His father, Satish Sharma, a retired senior defence officer, had come to Ambernath to settle a dispute between his son and his daughter-in-law. Police said they have learned the accused, who is on the run, had a dispute with his father too.
Police said Satish, who lives in Mumbai, had gone to Ambernath on Tuesday with his wife and younger son, and driver to resolve the dispute.
When they reached Bindeshwar’s place, they did not find him there. They were on their way back to Mumbai after pacifying the daughter-in-law when the incident took place.
As they neared 7 Level Hotel in Ambernath, they saw Bindeshwar drive up speedily in his Safari from behind. His father’s driver parked on the side, assuming Bindeshwar wished to speak to his family, and got out of the SUV. Bindeshwar did not stop though, and overtook the parked car, in turn, hitting the driver and dragging him some 100 feet ahead- till he decided to take a U-turn to hit his father’s SUV from the front. The impact of the hit was such that his father’s SUV skidded some 10 feet in the reverse and hit a parked bike.
His father’s driver and the pillion rider of the bike are critical. Details of the other three victims, who too have been hospitalised, were not known at the time of going to press. Police said their team was recording statements of the victims.
A video of the incident has gone viral with several raising questions about the law-and-order situation in the state.
