NEW DELHI: BJP on Saturday took a jibe at the ruling DMK-Congress alliance in Tamil Nadu after reports surfaced that the state police had allegedly mistreated the parents of a minor rape survivor, while allowing the offender to remain at large.
The saffron party, which has led a movement against the Mamata Banerjee government’s alleged misuse of state machinery following the Kolkata RG Kar rape-murder case, accused the DMK-led government of using the same “playbook” to suppress the “victim’s voice” and protect the “accused.”
BJP’s Shehzad Poonawalla, citing a report, took to X (formerly Twitter) and said, “From Kolkata to Kannauj to Kerala—INDIA bloc only protects rapists, not delivers justice to daughters.”
“Now, see this shocker from Chennai under the DMK-Congress government,” he added.

Specifically referring to the recent rape case in Tamil Nadu, the national spokesperson asked why the family was assaulted when they went to the police station to file a complaint about their daughter’s rape. He also questioned why no arrests had been made, despite an FIR being filed.
The spokesperson, referring to incidents of rape in states governed by INDIA bloc members, questioned why leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi remain completely silent when such crimes occur in states ruled by their allies.
“Will the DMK-Congress follow the TMC playbook and call the victim a liar? Will Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Vinesh Phogat visit the victim? Why is the ‘INDI & Ladki Hoon’ brigade silent on Kannauj, Kerala (Simi Rose John case), Kolkata RG Kar, and now Chennai?” he said on X.
According to a report by TOI, the incident occurred on August 29 and the case was registered on August 31. However, when the all-women police visited the hospital, Inspector Raji, in violation of protocol, asked the mother to bring her Aadhaar card and other documents to the station and conducted an ‘inquiry’ with the child.
Additionally, the minor victim had to witness the mistreatment of her parents in the presence of the accused, Sathish, a local water can supplier. Despite the FIR being registered, accused Sathish also has not yet been arrested.
