NEW DELHI: Australian opener Travis Head delivered a brutal assault on Sam Curran, smashing 30 runs off a single over in the first T20I at the Rose Bowl in Southampton, as the visitors cruised to a 28-run victory over England. Head’s fireworks were the highlight of the match, helping Australia post a competitive total of 179, which proved too much for the hosts.
The carnage took place in the fifth over of the Australian innings when Curran replaced Jofra Archer in the attack.Head started the assault with two boundaries and then smoked three consecutive sixes, before finishing it off with another four. This resulted in Head scoring a staggering 30 runs in that over.

Head scored 59 runs off just 23 balls, including four sixes and eight fours. Along with Matthew Short, who made 41 off 26 balls, they built an opening partnership of 86 runs in just six overs. This gave Australia a strong platform in their innings as they posted 179 batting first.
During the chase, England lost four wickets for 52 runs in the first eight overs. Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran tried to stabilize the innings with a 54-run partnership, but Australia’s bowlers, notably Adam Zampa and Josh Hazlewood, maintained the pressure.

Zampa took two wickets for 20 runs, while Hazlewood took two for 32, leading to England being bowled out for 151.
The series now moves to Cardiff for the second match on Friday, with Australia leading 1-0 in the three-match series.
