NEW DELHI: CJI D Y Chandrachud on Thursday took strong exception to a plea made by an advocate asking for some change in a court order which had not been signed by judges.
As the lawyer pleaded for modification in the order dictated in an arbitration matter, a bench headed by the CJI asked how come he knew about the order when it had not been signed by judges, and was just noted down by the court master. When the lawyer told the bench that he got to know about the order from the court master, the CJI got angry and said, “How dare you speak to the court master and see what was dictated?”
“If the court master says to the contrary. Is it that you will come to my house and show me what I dictated to my officer. The final order is the one which we sign. Do not try these funny tricks with me,” the CJI said. “This is not done… I do not have a long tenure left now, but I am in charge till my very last day,” Justice Chandrachud said.
