NEW DELHI: A Delhi-bound IndiGo flight from Mumbai was diverted to Ahmedabad due to a bomb threat, which was later confirmed to be a hoax on Wednesday.
An airport official reported that the threat was received via a tweet soon after the aircraft, which had nearly 200 passengers and crew, departed from Mumbai on Tuesday night.
Upon receiving the threat, Mumbai ATC alerted the pilots, who then decided to make an emergency landing at Ahmedabad, the nearest airport on the route to Delhi.
“After landing here during midnight, the aircraft, carrying nearly 200 passengers and crew, was thoroughly checked by the security agencies overnight. However, nothing suspicious was found. The flight took-off for Delhi at around 8 am today morning after getting a green signal from the security personnel,” the official stated.
This incident follows several recent hoax bomb threats targeting flights. On Monday, three international flights departing from Mumbai received similar threats.
An Air India flight bound for New York was diverted to New Delhi, while two IndiGo flights were delayed for several hours.
Police reported no suspicious items were found on any of these planes.
