Drifting is a driving technique where the driver intentionally oversteers, causing the rear tyres to lose traction. This causes the car to slide sideways. While drifting, also known as ‘controlled oversteering’, is becoming a popular sport and has established its presence in India, it should be noted that performing a drift is a risky affair. A man in Kerala found out the same when his drifting attempt went wrong.
In the video that has gone viral on social media, the driver is seen drifting the SUV in an open field. Soon after, he loses control of the vehicle and ends up ramming it in a coconut tree. Although, it wasn’t a high-speed crash nor the tree was significantly big enough but the impact was significant enough to leave the front of the car severely damaged. Although, fortunately the driver escaped the incident unhurt and did pose with the damaged SUV, which will for sure require some costly repairs.
What caused the crash?
First of all, the choice of vehicle for performing drift isn’t appropriate. Also, the location isn’t suitable either as just before hitting the tree, the SUV can be seen getting into a water-logged ditch that made it lose control. Now talking about the choice of vehicle, SUVs are generally not preferred for drifting due to their higher center of gravity and heavier weight. It makes them less agile and prone to rollovers.
