KALYAN: A woman from Kalyan has been booked for allegedly torching her husband, a retired government servant, to death for refusing to part with his pension money for household expenses. Two others who allegedly helped her have also been booked.
On Friday night, the woman, Ashwini Pawar (59), called two friends of her daughter – Sidhesh Suryawanshi and Ritesh Chavan – over to their house in Vijay Nagarlocality.The three allegedly poured some liquid on Ashiwini’s husband, Harishchandra (61), and set him on fire, the police said.
His screams alerted neighbours who helped douse the flames and took the man to hospital. Harishchandra, who had sustained burn injuries, was admitted to National Burns Centre, Navi Mumbai, where he died on Sunday evening while undergoing treatment.
Harishchandra had also objected to the two male friends visting their home, which had led to tiffs between the elderly couple, the police said.
