NEW DELHI: The Vijay’s Sherawali Temple in Hayward, California was attacked with anti-India graffiti, according to Hindu American Foundation (HAF). The incident comes merely two weeks following the Swaminarayan Mandir attack and one week after a theft occurred at the Shiv Durga temple in the vicinity.
Photo posted by HAF online showed the temple board defaced with slogans supporting Khalistan and abusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi.In a post on X, HAF said that they are is in touch with temple leaders as well as Alameda police department as well as the civil rights division of the justice department.

In another post, HAF wrote, “We are once again encouraging all temple leaders to download the Hindu American temple safety guide. The guide specifically discusses that temple graffiti qualifies as a hate crime and also the importance of installing working security cameras and alarm systems in view of the rising threat from Khalistan proponents as well as the omnipresent risk from anti-Hindu actors.”
On December 23, the walls of Swaminarayan temple, also in California, was defaced with pro-Khalistan and anti-India slogans. External affairs minister S.Jaishankar had expressed concern over the Swaminarayan temple near San Jose being vandalised and said extremists and separatist forces outside India should not get such space, even as the so-called Khalistan issue has started to bedevil ties between the two countries.

Similar incidents have been reported in neighbouring country Canada.
Incidents targeting Hindu temples and Indian diplomatic missions, as well as threats against Indian diplomats, are on the rise in the United States and Canada. These occurrences coincide with escalating tensions between New Delhi and the West, fueled by allegations of official Indian involvement in the assassination of Sikh militant Hardeep Singh Nijjar and an alleged conspiracy to harm separatist activist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
