NEW DELHI: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday made a statement on trouble-torn Sandeshkhali and said no one involved in any wrongdoing will be spared by her government. “I have never allowed, will never allow any injustice to anyone,” Mamata said on the floor of the assembly.
“17 people have been arrested, state women commission has been sent to find out the details, police teams have been formed,” the West Bengal chief minister added.
Mamata said a “sinister design is at play” to foment trouble in the area and the state government has taken all necessary actions to control the situation.
Sandeshkhali has been witnessing protests led by the BJP over alleged atrocities on locals by ruling TMC leaders. Protesters have been demanding arrest of TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh and his followers. The accusations against Shajahan and his aides include forcefully capturing land and sexually harassing women. Sheikh has been absconding since January 5 when a mob attacked Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers during a raid at his residence in connection with an alleged ration scam.
