CHENNAI: The DMK has assured Makkal Needhi Maiam led by actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan only a Rajya Sabha seat next year. The MNM would not be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The actor visited Anna Arivayalam, the DMK headquarters at noon and signed a pact with DMK president and Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin in the presence of senior DMK leaders.

“I am not going to contest. But this (DMK-led) alliance will have our full support. Since it is not for a position but for the country, I have shaken hands where I should shake hands,” Haasan told reporters later. The poll pact is that the MNM would campaign for the DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the LS polls.
