With the Indian team having stormed into the title clash, airfares to the match city have just shot through the roof. This, despite IndiGo operating six direct flights from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad on Saturday.
Fares for morning tickets starting from Rs 30,999
Madhu Prasad, a Jayanagar resident and manager with an e-commerce firm, is a die-hard cricket fan. “We all went crazy, watching the first semi-final on TV, with the Indian team bringing such delight to fans like me. I was all excited and decided I should watch the final at the stadium in Ahmedabad – if not from the fan zone in the city,” said the 31-year-old.
However, Prasad was in for a shock as he logged in to book a Bengaluru-Ahmedabad ticket for Saturday. The one-way fare for a 9 pm IndiGo flight stood at a whopping Rs 32,999.
With average Bengaluru-Ahmedabad one-way fares across airlines hovering around the Rs 30,000-mark, IndiGo’s early-morning and 7pm departures were the cheapest at Rs 26,999 as of Thursday, while the lone Akasa Air flight on Saturday had a one-way fare of Rs 28,778.
Cricket craze across India has reached such a fever pitch that even fares for early-morning departures on matchday, Sunday, from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru to Ahmedabad are starting from Rs 30,999. The final at the Narendra Modi Stadium begins at 2pm on Sunday. Some Bengaluru fans are planning to take flights with a stopover in Mumbai. However, even for those, the one-way fares are above Rs 16,000.
