The Apple event is just days away now. Apple-focused AppleInsider has shared pictures of covers of iPhone 16 series from a popular accessory maker. Accessory maker Spigen gave the publication an early look at its new case for iPhone 16 that claims to show the new Capture button with a special cover to support its touch functionality.
But first, what is the Capture Button?
Apple is reportedly introducing a new camera-based “Capture” button on at least some iPhone 16 models this year.Several reports claim that the iPhone 16 models are going to have an all-new button that’s designed to make it easier to shoot photos when the device is held in landscape mode.

There have been reports that Apple’s first party cases cover the Capture button and AppleInsider said that it was able to independently confirm that claim. Further confirming this are now the cases from Spigen.

Spigen sent the publication its Ultra Hybrid MagFit case for iPhone 16 series that has a unique covering. The clear case with a harder plastic back and a softer grey bumper around the edge has a small piece of what appears to be black-tinted metal that blends into the darkened sides for the presumed Capture button.
“It’s free floating, suspended by some sort of rubber gasket. The inside of the button has a white material, likely a conductor similar to what Apple is doing. To work, it must make contact with the whole button — and it looks like it will. Based on what we’ve learned, the button is slightly recessed, so when a phone is inserted, it will push out against the button ensuring good contact,” is how the article describes it.

But yes, there is no sure shot way to test the efficacy of the Capture button and the cases until we get to see the new iPhones at the ‘Glowtime’ event on September 9.

More on Buttons in iPhone 16 series
The so-called Capture Button has also appeared in several CAD renders and dummy models of all four ‌iPhone‌ devices, however, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently suggested that there is a possibility that it will only be available on the Pro models.
Also, the Action Button in iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models is likely to be expanded to the standard iPhone 16 models. This button can perform various functions like activating the Flashlight, turning on the Camera, launching Shortcuts, and more.
