JAIPUR: This monsoon has been exceedingly kind to the desert state of Rajasthan as it received 668mm of average rain till Saturday to surpass the previous record of 664mm set from June 1 to Sept 15 in 1975.
“Rajasthan received the highest rainfall in 49 years,” Jaipur Met director Radhey Sharma said, explaining that from 1975 to 2023, average rainfall of the state was 450mm.Sharma said the all-time rain record was made in 1917 when the state’s average was around 811mm. Since the monsoon’s tail is still wagging, the state might reach 700mm this year.
