A video has emerged showing group of Australia Post workers throwing parcels into a van at a Sydney distribution centre.
The footage, which was uploaded to TikTok, showed a group of four men wearing uniforms with the Australia Post logo loading a van with parcels.
The workers were seen haphazardly throwing the satchels and boxes into the mostly-loaded vehicle.
The man filming the video can be heard saying: “The way Aus Post treats people’s packages. Just throwing them around, like no one gives a s**t. Look at them … What a joke.”
The video has been watched more than 406,000 times on TikTok.
Since the social media post went viral, a spokeswoman for Australia Post apologised on behalf of the workers in the video and said their actions were unacceptable.
“The vast majority of our network takes pride in their job delivering for all Australians, and it’s disappointing to see it’s not the case here,” she said.
“These actions are not in line with the service standards we expect of our people.
“We sincerely apologise and are investigating the matter as a priority. Australia Post regularly reminds team members about correct handling procedures.”
Despite Christmas being two months away, Australia Post have already flagged last sending dates ahead of the seasonal rush.
For deliveries within Australia, senders will need to ensure parcels are sent by December 18 (Parcel Post), or December 21 (Express Post),
International deliveries will need to be posted by November 16 to 29 (Economy Air) or November 23 to December 7 (International Standard), depending on the location. Shoppers opting for International Express however, will have a deadline between November 30 to December 13 to post their parcels.
“We know these last-sending dates are very important for customers to help ensure cards and gifts make it in time to loved ones near and far,” Australia Post parcel, post and eCommerce services executive general manager Gary Starr said.
“Of course, if items are sent after the recommended dates, they will still be delivered as quickly as possible, but they may not arrive until after Christmas.”
