The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Vichitra Veer, confirmed that they have been in regular contact with embassy officials, but no response has been received thus far. Veer stated, “We are waiting for her family to come and identify the body so that the process of autopsy examination could be started.”
The police revealed that the woman’s body, found with her limbs bound by chains near a school in Tilak Nagar on October 20, is still being preserved in the hospital mortuary.
Additionally, the police conducted a psycho-analysis test on Gurpreet Singh, who was arrested on October 21, to evaluate his mental state. Singh had provided multiple accounts to the police regarding the murder and disposal of the body.
On Monday, the police announced their intention to involve psycho-analysts in the case due to the accused’s inconsistent statements. They held several consultations with doctors and counselors on Monday evening, and these continued on Tuesday.
According to sources within the Delhi police, Singh, who has been in police custody for four days, was taken to various locations, including a shop where he had purchased chains and locks. Singh reportedly spent Rs 600 on these chains and locks just two days before the woman’s killing.
During the interrogation, Singh admitted to killing the woman because he wanted to marry her, but she rejected his proposal. Singh identified the woman as Nina Berger, of Swiss origin, stating that she had arrived in Delhi from Zurich on October 11 and was staying in a hotel. The police also recovered some documents, including her passport and visas, from the possession of the accused.
