BENGALURU: Bengaluru has the largest group of night-time (12am – 6am) movie goers among the other metro cities which made it to the list. This is as per data from a survey conducted by BookMyShow, one of India’s leading entertainment ticketing e-commerce platforms.
A survey of the information collected by the platform over the course of the year through booking requests and ticket reservations shows that Bengalureans kept themselves entertained in huge numbers even during late nights.Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Trivandrum were where the other night owls preferred to spend the night sitting glued to the big screen.
About 1.2 million Bengalureans turned up for on-ground live events and the platform had helped the organisation of close to 6,000 live events in the city during 2023. Over 1.5 lakh Bengalureans attended these live entertainment events solo this year. As per the survey, all over the country, 13.5 million people attended live on-ground events and 9.5 lakh of them went solo to experience the same.
BookMyShow told TOI that Bengaluru celebrated the Independence Day weekend with movies – August 12 (Saturday) saw the highest sale of tickets in the city (over 2 lakh) via this platform. Across India, August 13 (Sunday) recorded the highest ticket sales on BookMyShow – 2.8 million movie tickets were sold on one day.
That weekend turned out to be the one filled with a lot of indulgence in entertainment as 1 million tickets were sold between August 10 and 15 in Bengaluru. Not just the city, but the country binged on movies during that period with 10.9 million tickets sold by the service platform between August 13 and 20.
