Infosys aims to prevent fraudulent recruitment practices and enhance the hiring experience for candidates.

Infosys, one of India’s leading software services companies, has implemented a new hiring process that eliminates the practice of sending job offer letters and attachments to new recruits via email. Instead, the company now requires candidates, including both freshers and laterals, to access their job application details by logging into Infosys‘ internal system.
Sources familiar with the matter told ET that this initiative serves multiple purposes. It aims to prevent fraudulent recruitment practices, enhance the hiring experience for candidates, protect gullible candidates from being defrauded, and promote a paperless system.
The move comes amidst broader controversies surrounding delayed onboarding of freshers in the Indian software services industry.
Recruitment vendors working with Infosys, who wished to remain anonymous, suggested that the new approach is designed to curb recruitment fraud while making it slightly more challenging for candidates to engage in window shopping and negotiate with competing employers.

Infosys has prominently displayed a notice on its career website, stating, “Important notice-Infosys offer letter and associated documents are available only on our career site. Candidates can access this using their login credentials. We don’t send emails with attached offer letters to our candidates anymore. According to Infosys’ Form 20F submitted to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the company received a staggering 2,436,929 job applications in the fiscal year 2024. Out of these applicants, 194,367 were interviewed, and 26,975 were offered employment. The filing clarified, “These statistics do not include our subsidiaries”.
Infosys has also cautioned about the increasing instances of recruitment fraud on its career website. Scammers have been posting fake job openings or contacting job seekers with fraudulent offers.
Industry experts have expressed concerns that hiring unsuitable or less committed employees could lead to disruptions in service delivery, negatively impacting client satisfaction and productivity.

They pointed out that virtual hiring practices during the pandemic resulted in many IT companies discovering that unsuitable candidates had received offer letters. Additionally, some candidates used their offer letters for window shopping with competing employers.

“Our new design focuses on health and wellbeing, productivity, social connect and inclusiveness, while also ensuring environmental sustainability”, Infosys stated in its ESG report for FY24.
The company further emphasized its commitment to being a well-governed, environmentally sustainable organization that fosters diversity and inclusivity in the workplace.
