NEW DELHI: BJP ally and Union minister Chirag Paswan Monday termed the lateral entry move “completely wrong” and said he would raise the issue before the Centre. He said his party is “absolutely not in favour of” any appointment by government without following the policy on reservations.
“My party’s stance on such appointments is absolutely clear. Wherever there are govt appointments, the provisions of reservation must be followed. The way this information has come to light is also a matter of concern for me because I am a part of this govt and have the platform to raise these issues. Speaking on behalf of my party, we are absolutely not in favour of this. This is completely wrong, and I will raise this matter before the govt,” Chirag told PTI.
The LJP (Ram Vilas) president did not respond to TOI’s queries till the report went to press.
Earlier in the day, Paswan said, “Reservation provisions must be there in any government appointment. There are no ifs and buts in this. No reservation exists in the private sector and if it is not implemented in govt positions … is a matter of concern.”
Chirag opposing the move to hire professionals and experts directly for the posts of joint secretaries, directors and deputy secretaries without following reservation is set to encourage the demand of opposition members, including Rahul Gandhi of Congress, Tejashwi Yadav of RJD and Akhilesh Yadav of SP. They have slammed the move, claiming it would snatch reservations from SCs, STs and OBCs.
