Muzaffarnagar: Several parked cars — part of Union minister of state Sanjeev Balyan’s convoy — were allegedly vandalised by some miscreants during a poll meeting at a village in Muzaffarnagar district on Saturday night. Miscreants also pelted stones at the vehicles at Madh Karimpur and a few BJP workers were injured, local party leaders said, adding that “the minister was at the village venue and had to be escorted out by his security personnel.” “Around 20 vehicles, including ex-MLA Vikram Saini’s car, got damaged due to stone pelting,” said senior BJP member, Abhishek Gurjar.
Balyan told TOI on Sunday, “When I reached the pradhan’s house, where a public meeting was scheduled, a few young men wearing masks damaged the parked vehicles with sticks and rods. They started pelting stones when our partymen tried to stop them. Others started throwing stones from the terrace. It was a pre-planned attack. It seems they wanted to kill me. I’m thankful to my security personnel for safely taking me out of the village.”
Balyan added he hasn’t filed a police complaint in the matter yet. “I don’t want to take action against mindless youngsters who were misled to attack us. Police should identify the main conspirators. There could be a larger conspiracy to plunge western UP into a caste conflict.”
SP (city), Muzaffarnagar, Satyanarayan Prajapat, said, “Search is on to identify and arrest the accused. Investigation is ongoing to find the motive behind the incident.” Balyan is the BJP candidate from Muzaffarnagar Lok Sabha seat, voting for which will be held in the first phase on April 19.
