NEW DELHI: BJP leader, Munna Sharma, was shot dead in Patna on Monday morning while reportedly resisting a chain snatching attempt.
The incident occurred near a restaurant in Patna City and despite being rushed to the hospital, Sharma succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The police are currently investigating the case and examining CCTV footage to identify and arrest the culprits.
According to Patna Police, the shooting took place at around 6.15 am. Despite efforts to save his life, Sharma died under medical care.
Authorities have collected evidence from the crime scene and are using technical investigations to piece together what happened.
“We received information around 6.15 am that a man, Munna Sharma, was injured by criminals near a restaurant. He was rushed to a hospital by his family where he died while under medical treatment. CCTV footage around the spot of crime is being examined and other technical investigations are being undertaken. Further action is being taken,” said Chowk Police Station SHO Shashi Kumar Rana.
The forensic team has gathered evidence from the site, and a special police team is scrutinizing CCTV footage. The police are also investigating the motive behind the attack.
“The FSL team has collected evidence from the site of the incident. A special team of police is reviewing CCTV footage. We are trying to find the reason behind the incident. Dial 100 team is also involved in the probe. The family of Munna Sharma has said that the chain he was wearing is still around his neck. Identification of one suspect has been done,” DSP Patna City-2, Gaurav Sharma, stated.
Sharma, a former BJP mandal president, was reportedly resisting a chain-snatching attempt when the attack occurred. The police are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice and have intensified their efforts to solve the case.
