NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday alleged that BJP was running ‘Operation Jhaadu‘, aiming to arrest all top functionaries of his party to eliminate AAP, as it saw them as a challenge.
Kejriwal was addressing party workers before leading a protest march to BJP headquarters following the arrest of his aide, Bibhav Kumar, in the Swati Maliwal assault case.Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, who had been missing in action for months due to an eye surgery that even led to speculation over his affiliation with the party, was also present. Addressing party workers, he said PM Modi could get all functionaries arrested in one go instead of taking them one by one.
BJP accuses Kejriwal of ‘political drama‘
New Delhi: Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva slammed AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday and alleged that the chief minister was enacting a “political drama” over Swati Maliwal’s “assault” charge, while maintaining silence on the issue.
Sachdeva asked how had AAP concluded that BJP was involved in the matter when Maliwal, an AAP Rajya Sabha member, was allegedly assaulted at Kejriwal’s residence by his close aide Bibhav Kumar.
“Maliwal is an AAP functionary. The incident occurred at Kejriwal’s residence. She was beaten was confirmed by AAP MP Sanjay Singh, then where is BJP in this whole matter,” he said. “It’s a new political drama by Kejriwal. He is free to stage protests and dharnas but he should at least once utter a word for Maliwal, who has been closely associated with him and his party for two decades,” he said. The Delhi chief minister is concerned over Kumar’s arrest because he is privy to his “wrongdoings and corruption”, Sachdeva alleged.
Maliwal, an AAP Rajya Sabha member, has alleged that Kumar assaulted her on May 13 when she had gone to the chief minister’s residence to meet him.
Kumar was arrested on Saturday and produced in a court, which remanded him in five-day police custody.
Sachdeva alleged that the Maliwal assault case has “exposed” Kejriwal. His claim that AAP is an ideology is “bogus”, he added. His only ideology is “loot and corruption”, he said.
Kejriwal has said that despite BJP and the Prime Minister’s efforts to crush AAP by arresting its functionaries, the party will not break apart because it is a thought that has influenced millions across the country.
BJP functionary Shehzad Poonawala said: “Kejriwal should break his silence instead of drama and answer specific questions. Did he order attack on Swati Maliwal? Why is CCTV footage missing? Did Kejriwal help Bibhav to destroy or tamper evidence including CCTV footage? Why release small clips & not full CCTV footage?”
“Why did the party do a U-turn from what Sanjay Singh said earlier and why the victim-shaming now by AAP,” he said. “Did Kejriwal give patronage to Bibhav Kumar because he has dark secrets of Kejriwal?” he asked.
