PATNA: Vikassheel Insaan Party chief Mukesh Sahani‘s father was found murdered Tuesday in their ancestral village home in Bihar‘s Darbhanga. The body of 70-year-old Jitan Sahani, who lived alone, was discovered by a man delivering flowers around 6.30 am. The visitor reported the rear door broken and household items scattered, leading to the discovery of the blood-soaked, mutilated body inside the house.
Darbhanga SSP Jagannath Reddy set up a SIT led by SP (rural) Kamya Mishra to probe the murder, which cops suspect was committed with one or more sharp weapons. “Initial probe suggests he was killed by intruders who may have broken in late Monday with the intention of burglary,” Biraul DSP Manish Chandra Choudhary said.
Additional DGP Jitendra Gangwar said two people were detained for interrogation, based on preliminary findings. “Three empty glasses on a table in the deceased’s house is being examined. Three bikes were also seized. A small cupboard in which Jitan kept important documents and cash was found dumped in a water-filled pit in the backyard of the house.”
Mukesh, the chief of VIP, an ally of INDIA bloc, was a minister in the erstwhile Nitish govt from Nov 2020 to March 2022. He rushed to Darbhanga from Mumbai after being informed of the murder. Jitan, who has two sons and a daughter, lived alone since his wife died a decade ago. Mukesh’s party has a strong base among OBCs.
