Police have revealed a man’s body discovered on a suburban street is believed to be linked to a home invasion several streets away.

The man, who is yet to be formally identified, was found on Eildon St in Doncaster, in Melbourne northeast, at about 5.30am and died at the scene.

Homicide Squad detectives have launched a probe into the incident, with no arrests made.

Providing an update to media on Saturday, Inspector Carrie Kohler said police believe the man had been the victim of a aggravated burglary earlier the same morning.

“It’s understood this man was the victim of an aggravated burglary in Sargent St, Doncaster prior to being located,” she said.

Sargent St is located about 500m away from where the man’s body was located.

Inspector Kohler described the incident as a “tragic set of circumstances” and sought to assuage community concerns.

“As the police manager within the area I wanted to reassure the public we have increased our patrols and our presence within the community and we will continue to do so,” she said.

“Our thoughts are with not only the victim and his family, friends and the community and we will continue to support our community through this terrible time.”

On Saturday, officers and sniffer dogs were seen patrolling adjacent streets while a SES tent had been set up where the man’s body was found.
