NEW DELHI: In a significant development, Delhi police on Tuesday revealed that bomb threat emails received by around 150 schools in Delhi-NCR early this month, prompting massive evacuations and searches, were traced to Hungary’s Budapest. The IP address linked to these emails has been identified as originating from Hungary’s capital and Delhi police plans to collaborate with Hungarian authorities for further investigation.
The emails, sent from a mail.ru server, claimed that explosives had been planted on school premises.This triggered widespread panic on May 1, as parents hurried to pick up their children. However, after extensive searches, the threats were declared a hoax, with no explosives found.
Following the incident, an FIR was filed, and Delhi police contacted the Russian-based mailing service mail.ru via Interpol. The investigation focuses on the IP address, the sender, and the origin of the emails to uncover the conspiracy and motive behind the bomb scare.
Officials suspect a “deeper conspiracy” potentially linked to a terror group, possibly an ISIS module, especially given the timing during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
