Footage of a brutal collision between a police car with its sirens on and another vehicle has gone viral on social media, with four people taken to hospital as a result of the crash.
The vision shows two police cars travelling through a red light at an intersection in Townsville with a white Pajero Sport failing to stop.
Both of the police cars have their sirens and lights on.
The Pajero collides with one of the police cars at high speed with the force of the crash tipping the sports car on its side.
In a statement to news.com.au, Queensland Police said they are investigating the cause of the crash.
“On Friday, June 7 around 10.50am, a police vehicle and another vehicle (not stolen) collided at the intersection of Riverway Drive and Hervey Range Road, Kirwan,” the statement said.
“Two police officers and the driver and passenger of the other vehicle were taken to hospital for observation.”
The vision was uploaded to the Facebook page Dash Cam Owners Australia with the post receiving hundreds of comments.
Many on the post debated who was responsible for the crash.
“Would be interesting to see how the lawyers argue this one,” one user wrote.
On the same day in Queensland in a separate incident, a cop and a two-year-old child were among three seriously injured in a crash which led to major traffic headaches in the area.
A Queensland Police spokesman said initial investigations indicated a police vehicle was stopped on the side of the motorway while performing traffic duties.
It was then struck from behind by a Mitsubishi Triton ute.
The 54-year-old male police officer, 54-year-old driver of the ute and her two-year-old passenger were all taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the third vehicle, who had stopped to offer assistance, was not injured.
