KOTA: A 23-year-old BTech student, who had been under treatment for depression for the past three years, ended his life at his house in Kota on Sunday, when his family members were away. This is the fifth student suicide in the city this year.
Rohit Mathur, who was pursuing BTech degree from a Jalandhar college, has attempted suicide in the past, too, police said.
On Sunday, Rohit called up his father, an engineer posted in Alwar, and told him that he was contemplating suicide. His father repeatedly called him back, but when his frantic calls went unanswered, he requested neighbours to check on Rohit and immediately started for Kota.
Rohit’s mother had gone to Lucknow to attend a wedding.
Police handed over the body to family members after postmortem examination on Monday and lodged a case under section 174 of CrPC for investigation.
Three coaching students and another BTech student have died by suicide in Kota since Jan.
