NEW DELHI: On Independence Day, every Indian is excited to unfurl the national flag but do birds share the same feeling?
An unexpected video from Kerala is going viral on the internet capturing a bird from afar helping a struck national flag to “unfurl.” But the reality is different.
The clip was posted on 17th August and has garnered over one million views on social media.
In a clip, a group of children and elders seen hoisting the national flag on the occasion of Independence Day but as the flag reaches the top, it seems to be stuck. And out of nowhere, a bird came and unfurls the flag.
Shilpa, the social media user who posted it, wrote in the caption, “The National Flag got stuck at the top while hoisting it. A bird came from nowhere and unfurled it!”

After the video posted online, the internet splits. Some of the user said that this bird “must be a reincarnated spirit of patriot,” and claimed it as “divine intervention.” While one of the users said, “Missing context : The crow sits on the coconut leaf, behind the flagpost. Did not influence flag opening at all. Watching at 0.25x speed reveals clearly.”
However, a follow-up video has dismissed the bird’s magical intervention and said that the confusion is all created because of the camera angle.

Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair shared a video from another angle showing how the bird doesn’t fly near the flagpole but merely sits on a coconut tree behind the flag and has nothing to do with its unfurling.
