Popular actor turned politician Vijayakant, who was addmitted in hospital a couple of days ago for a routine check up and was found to be infected by the COVID virus, has passed away. The DMDK founder, fondly called as Captain, had been in an out of the hospital has been battling some illness for a few years. He was 71. K-town actors are in shock and have been sharing their condolence on social media.
On Tuesday, a statement issued by Vijayakanth‘s political party, the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) said he was admitted to the hospital for a regular health check-up and earlier this morning, it revealed that Vijayakant has tested positive for COVID and is on ventilator support as he is facing difficulty in breathing. A few hours later, the popular star seems to have passed away.
The hospital’s statement said, “Captain Vijayakant was admitted in the hospital due to pneumonia and was on ventilator support. Despite efforts by the medical team, he passed away in the morning of December 28, 2023.”
As a mark of respect to Captain Vijayakanth, morning shows in cinema theaters all over TN have been decided to be cancelled by the TN Exhibitors Association.
Vijayakant was one of very few Tamil actors to have acted only in Tamil films throughout his career. Vijayakanth excelled in versatile roles in a variety of films falling under various genres though he was more popular as an action hero. He has acted in more than 20 films as a police officer almost all them turned out to be huge hits.
Some his notable films include Sattam Oru Iruttarai, Nooravathu Naal, Vaidhegi Kaathirunthaal, Oomai Vizhigal, Captain Prabhakaran, Pulan Visaranai, Chinna Gounder, Sethupathi IPS, Honest Raj and many more.
