HAZARIBAG: Investigation into the NEET-UG paper leak case by CBI so far has indicated that an organised gang with “influential individuals,” including a high-ranking govt official, could be involved and that their racket may well extend to other competitive exams for jobs.
CBI sources said custody interrogations in Patna of principal and vice-principal of Hazaribag’s Oasis School – Ehsanul Haque and Md Imtiyaz Alam – along with a journalist, Jamaluddin, hinted that the “influential individuals” could be working with equal stakes as the arrested trio in Hazaribag.Call details of those in custody are being examined to uncover their identities, sources added.
Sources said the probe has revealed the hand of a high-ranking govt official known to be close to Haque. The official is said to be hand-in-glove with the suspects in Hazaribag. “This gang could have been operating very cleverly for the past few years,” sources said, adding that given these circumstances, the agency has now expanded its investigation to other competitive examinations.
Sources also informed that the agency took Haque, Alam, Jamaluddin and others involved in the case in its remand again to conduct further interrogation and cross-examination. The responses by the trio to CBI’s questions have been allegedly guarded but the lifestyle maintained by Haque and the other suspects hinted at wrongful monetary gains. indicating their possible involvement in the racket. Many of them have acquired substantial properties and own three to four flats in posh areas, sources said.
Aman Singh, another suspect in CBI custody following his arrest from Dhanbad two days ago, is also being interrogated by CBI officers who are said to be searching for his Hazaribag link. The agency obtained leads about Aman after interrogating the others under arrest.
The agency picked up one more person from Dhanbad on Friday and is on the lookout for Singh’s brother.
