VIJAYAWADA: In an important development that could shape political alliances in Andhra Pradesh, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is likely to hold talks with Union home minister Amit Shah on Wednesday evening.
Sources said that the prevailing uncertainty over the alliances will end with the outcome of the meeting. If everything goes well between the old friends, TDP is likely to join the NDA again, sources added.
The TDP top brass was expecting a call from the BJP high command after the parliamentary board meeting scheduled on February 9. However, it has come two days earlier and now the meeting will take place before the parliamentary board meeting. Sources in TDP said that the proposals by each party over the alliance will be discussed in the meeting.
After announcing the alliance between TDP and Janasena, Naidu and Pawan Kalyan held multiple rounds of discussions over the seat sharing arrangement. Sources said that they have come to a primary understanding in the two rounds of meetings held on last Sunday over the number of seats each party will contest. However, they could not finalise the numbers with prevailing uncertainty over BJP joining the alliance.
The political equation in Andhra Pradesh has turned interesting with Janasena forging alliance with TDP while having an understanding with the BJP. On the other hand, the BJP is in wait and watch mode assessing the trend in Andhra Pradesh. As the BJP state unit is divided over joining the TDP-Janasena alliance, the central unit could not take a decision.
Sources in BJP said that the party is looking for having representation from all states. The central leadership will take a decision if the terms of alliance are agreeable and adequate representation is given to them. Given the past experiences with the TDP, the BJP high command is extra careful in finalising the alliance this time, said sources.
