PUNE: Former Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan on Friday expressed his disappointment over the investigating agencies‘ failure to collect evidence against the key conspirators in Narendra Dabholkar‘s murder, while Sanatan Sanstha office-bearer Sunil Ghanwat accused him of creating a false narrative to promote the “Hindu terrorism” theory after the rationalist’s murder.
Chavan told TOI, “Who is the mastermind behind this murder, who has conspired it, all these details have not come forward even after 11 years of the incident. Two shooters have been convicted in the case, but the investigating agencies have failed to collect the evidence against the main conspirators, which is quite disappointing. It appears that these conspirators have been let loose very lightly.”
“Nearly two-and-a-half years before the murder of Dabholkar, we had raised a request to ban Sanatan Sanstha, but till today no action has been taken against the organisation,” Chavan added.
Sanatan Sanstha’s office-bearer Ghanwat and spokesperson Abhay Vartak, on the other hand, told reporters that the Dabholkar family used every opportunity to defame the Sanstha during the murder trial and after every arrest made by the investigation agencies.
Ghanwat said, “To prove Hindu terrorism behind the murder, the investigation agencies and the Dabholkar family made many remarks against Sanatan Sanstha. For the last one decade, they have been defaming us and this judgment has changed it.”
