RAIPUR: Seven Naxalites were killed in two separate encounters in forests of Narayapur district bordering Bijapur of Bastar division in Chhattisgarh on Thursday. A major joint operation was launched comprising forces from three districts of Narayanpur, Dantewada, Bastar.
A joint team of District Reserve Guards, Bastar Fighters, Special Task Force were out on anti-Naxalite operation, based on specific inputs about presence of cadres from Platoon number 16, Indravati Area committee and Marh division, Dantewada SP Gaurav Rai said.
SP Rai said that an encounter broke out between Maoists and security forces around 11 am. “It was a joint inter-district operation and in two encounters near Rekhawaya forests, two bodies were recovered by Narayanpur forces and five Naxal uniformed bodies by Dantewada forces. SP said that seven automatic weapons were also recovered from the encounter site,” he said.
The Dantewada forces were led by DSPs Rahul Uikey and Ashish Netam.
Narayanpur SP Prabhat Kumar said that the operation was still underway and bodies of seven Naxalites were being brought to base along with weapons seized. Kumar said that more details will surface soon as they are in touch with the security forces that are still in the encounter.
Part of the forces’ team is returning with the bodies and weapons while others are still in jungles in the encounter. The details of identity of killed Naxalites is expected to surface on Friday.
With this, the death toll of Naxalites touches 112 this year in separate encounters that took place in state.
Among the major recent encounter were 12 Naxals killed in Pidia village of Bijapur on May 10, ten Naxalites killed in encounter on borders of Narayanpur and Kanker districts on April 30, 29 killed in Kanker on April 16. However, villagers and rights activists alleged that those killed in Bijapur were “innocent villagers”.
