BENGALURU: JG Padmanabha, the then MD of Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki ST Development Corporation Ltd, allegedly concealed his scam share of nearly Rs 4 crore in cash at a friend’s farmhouse in Nelamangala and in another friend’s car parked outside his own house, sources said.
An SIT probing the Rs 94-crore scam arrested Padmanabha on May 31. He remained tight-lipped for more than a week about the money he had received.But subjected to detailed inquiry, sources said, he confessed that he had hidden his share with friends.
A police team took him to the farmhouse in Govinahalli, and seized Rs 3.6 crore from the spot on June 13. Cops found two suitcases and two carry-bags full of cash. They found Rs 149 lakh in one suitcase and Rs 108 lakh in another, alongside Rs 50 lakh and Rs 55.4 lakh in the two bags.
Further probe revealed that Padmanabha had borrowed a car from his friend and parked it near his residence in Sahakaranagar. He is suspected to have borrowed the car only to hide money in it. Investigators, accompanied by Padmanabha, went to the spot on June 14 and found the car, the key to which was with Padmanabha’s son. Police found and seized Rs 30 lakh in cash hidden in the car.
