According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), dense to very dense fog conditions are likely to continue over north India during next 4-5 days.
Delhi Palam (VIDP) and Safdarjung airports are reporting 500 metre visibility at 5.30am today, the 16th January, says IMD.
Airport officials said pilots trained in CAT-III procedures can land an aircraft with a minimum visibility of 50 metres. An aircraft can take off with a visibility of 125 metres.
30 flights departing from Delhi have been delayed and 17 departing flights were cancelled due to weather conditions, say airport sources.
Low Visibility Procedures are in progress at airport. All flight operations are presently normal. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information, says Delhi airport on ‘X’.
‘Cancel flight if it will be 3+ hours late’
Regulator DGCA said Monday that airlines will have to cancel flights “sufficiently in advance” if they are expected to be delayed by more than three hours.
30 trains to Delhi from various parts of the country are running late due to dense fog conditions as on Tuesday (16 January).
However, the visibility at Indira Gandhi International Airport dropped to zero metres on Monday, hitting flight operations for the second day in a row.
Over 100 flights were delayed and at least 20 cancelled, according to Delhi airport’s website. Airport sources said from 1am to 5am, five Delhi-bound flights were diverted —four to Jaipur and one to Ahmedabad.
