Students protest over the death of three civil services aspirants after the basement of a coaching centre in Old Rajender Nagar in Delhi

NEW DELHI: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has summoned AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak over a tragic incident where three students lost their lives due to flooding in the basement of a coaching center in Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi. The incident occurred on Saturday evening when heavy rains flooded the basement library of Rau’s IAS Study Circle, trapping two female and one male civil services aspirants.
“Allegations of ignored appeals for drain cleaning are concerning.A hearing is scheduled on 02.08.2024 at 12:30 pm. Notice has been given and Durgesh Pathak, MLA Rajinder Nagar, has been directed to appear in person. Non-compliance will result in appropriate action,” the NCW stated.
The commission took cognizance of this harrowing incident and emphasized the gravity of the accusations regarding ignored measures to clean the drainage system in the area. This matter has prompted the NCW to schedule a hearing on August 2, 2024, where Pathak is required to be present.
The incident involved civil services aspirants who were preparing for their exams in Old Rajinder Nagar when the basement they were in became flooded due to continuous rain. The NCW continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatalities and the alleged negligence.
