With the addition of these Starbus EVs, which were supplied by Tata Motors, the capital now has a fleet of 800 electric buses. This is a part of DTC’s larger order to supply and maintain 1,200 air-conditioned, low-floor electric buses for 12 years to Tata Motors subsidiary, TML CV Mobility.
By the end of 2023, Delhi is eyeing to expand its electric bus fleet to 1,900. Looking ahead to 2025, the city aims to have a total of 10,480 buses, with 8,280 of them being electric. This transition is expected to reduce annual CO2 emissions by 4.67 lakh tonnes, with a cumulative savings of 5.6 million tonnes over a 12-year span.

The Tata Starbus EV is an e-bus that optimizes energy consumption, resulting in low energy usage and operational costs. It has features like ease of boarding, driver-friendly operations, while ensuring zero emissions. It also gets other advanced features such as electronic stability control, electronic brake distribution, air suspension, Intelligent Transport System (ITS), and panic button among others.
Delhi, which happens to be one of the highest polluted cities in the country, with the increase of plying EVs on its roads, will be aiming to breathe a ‘clean’ sigh of relief. The Central Government had launched the FAME subsidies to support the transition towards electric mobility in India and the order from DTC will benefit from the same.
