KOLKATA: A youth, posing as a delivery boy, attacked a 62-year-old resident of Baranagar Gopalal Thakur Road, Behalapara, and snatched her gold chain before fleeing the spot on Saturday afternoon.
The victim, Pulu Goswami, was out shopping and while she was returning, she was followed by the youth till her apartment. When she started climbing the stairs, she was hit with a brick from behind.Locals took Goswami to Baranagar State General Hospital, where she received four stitches on her head.
Cops said that in the available CCTV footage, a youth wearing a ‘delivery boy’ uniform and holding a bag in his right hand, was seen entering the apartment around 1.30 pm.
“Holding a bag, the youth approached the woman and attacked her with a brick which was hidden inside his bag. The man hit Goswami at least thrice on her head, inflicting serious injuries. He then snatched the gold chain from her neck and fled the spot immediately,” said an investigating officer.
A senior police officer of the Barrackpore commissionerate said, “CCTV footage is being checked and we are trying to find out the identity of the accused. We have promptly registered a case after receiving the complaint.” A probe is on to nab the accused.
“We are now scared to allow delivery boys enter our apartment premises,” said Sharmistha Mukherjee, a resident of the apartment.
