KOLKATA: Parents of the 31-year-old RG Kar victim joined protesters Sunday on the eve of a scheduled Supreme Court hearing, vowing to stand by them in their joint quest for justice, reports.
“We won’t get justice easily. We have to snatch it. This will not be possible without everybody’s help. You all standing beside us gives us courage to fight,” the father declared, fighting back tears at one of two rallies in Kolkata’s Esplanade and Rash Behari. This was the second time in less than a week that the parents had joined such protests, with the last at RG Kar Hospital.
At the protest organised by a joint platform of doctors, which held a rally from NRS Hospital to Esplanade, the victim’s mother said seeing so many people gave them strength in this hour of crisis. “It crushes me inside everyday when I think about how my daughter suffered in her last hours. From the very beginning, the cops didn’t co-operate with us. We could have seen a glimpse of hope if they had co-operated even a little. Even after such a crime, police tried to cover it up. Evidence, too, has been tampered with,” the mother said.
An aunt of the junior doctor who came along with her parents echoed the pain. “I had seen her grow in front of my eyes. We could not imagine such a day was waiting for us. We do not want justice, we demand it. We want you all to keep standing with us till justice is delivered,” said the aunt.
At Rashbehari, where former students of 52 schools in south Kolkata had organised the rally, the father described the protesters as “our own family”. An elder cousin brother of the victim seemed overwhelmed by the numbers. “After seeing your support, we want to say that we demand justice,” the cousin said.
