Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida) Police have cautioned citizens that accumulating more than three traffic rule violation challans could result in the cancellation of their driving license. A subsequent repetition of the offense may lead to the suspension or cancellation of the vehicle’s registration, as outlined by the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety and decisions made in the Uttar Pradesh Road Safety Council meeting, as per a police statement on Saturday.
The police specified that individuals receiving over three consecutive challans for offenses such as red light jumping, overspeeding, overloading, carrying passengers in goods vehicles, using a mobile phone while driving, or driving under the influence will face license cancellation.Furthermore, if these drivers persist in repeating the offenses, the registration of their vehicles will also be subject to suspension or cancellation.
Officials report that Noida and Greater Noida have witnessed over 1,000 road accidents this year, resulting in nearly 400 fatalities and numerous injuries. The traffic police have issued over 14 lakh challans for rule violations until September 2023, more than double the number in 2022, according to official data. In 2023, 69,906 challans were issued for speeding, 66,867 for red light jumping, and 10,516 for using a mobile phone while driving.
