The fallout from ex-Tropical Cyclone Megan is due to dip southeast over the Easter long weekend bringing heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and possible flooding and damaging winds to multiple states.
The Northern Territory, northern WA and Queensland have experienced significant flooding since the storm system moved through the north of the country last week.
The town of Rabbit Flat recorded its wettest March on record with 277mm of rain reported in just one week.
The tropical moisture is forecast to start moving south over the weekend, with heavy rainfall possible in eastern SA and western NSW on Sunday.
Falls of up to 30mm are likely in western SA on Sunday, with up to 100mm possible in some isolated areas.
A cold front will collide with the wet weather system on Monday, pushing the rainband towards central Victoria and the coast of NSW.
Between 40 and 60mm of rain are possible in both states on Tuesday, before the system intensifies on Wednesday.
Flooding is possible in southern NSW and damaging winds are predicted to impact Victoria.

NSW
Friday will be partly cloudy in Sydney with a high of 25C and a chance of showers. The weather will stay warm and mostly dry through to Sunday before more significant rain arrives on Monday.
In the far-west and north of the state, the rain is expected to hit hardest. Byron Bay is forecast to receive showers for the entire long weekend with a high of 25C.
ACT
Those heading to the nation’s capital for the weekend can expect a dry few days. The mercury will soar to 29C on Saturday.
A slight chance of showers are possible on Monday and will intensify by Thursday, bringing an estimated 15mm of rain.
Victoria
Melbourne residents can look forward to a warm and dry long weekend. A high of 25 is forecast for Saturday.
By Monday, the temperature will plummet to a high of 23C with a high chance of showers.
Queensland
The wet weather that has been drenching the north of the country will stick around this long weekend. Showers are forecast on Friday, with a brief reprieve forecast for Saturday with a high of 28C.
Up north in Townsville, 8mm of rain is forecast to fall on Friday before easing to light showers for the rest of the weekend.
SA
Adelaide is in for a mostly warm and dry weekend with a high of 31C on Saturday. Showers will likely arrive on Monday.
Tasmania
Hobart is also in for a fairly dry weekend, with a high of 23C on Saturday. A slight chance of showers if forecast for Monday.
WA
Perth residents are in for a warm but cloudy long weekend. The warmest temperature is expected on Monday with a high of 30C.
NT
Significant rainfall will continue to drench the northernmost state with up to 10mm due to fall in Darwin each day.
Up to 20mm of rain is possible on Sunday and Monday.
