In her letter, which was specifically addressed to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Maliwal expressed her anguish over the “brutal victim shaming and character assassination” she endured over the past month.
Maliwal, who has served as the head of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) for more than eight years, stated in her letter, “I have headed the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) for over 8 years. During my tenure, the Commission handled more than 1.7 Lakh complaints of crimes against women and children.”
“Unfortunately, after becoming a Member of Parliament, I was assaulted by the PA of the Chief Minister of Delhi at his residence on 13 May, 2024. Following this traumatic incident, I took the necessary step of filing a police complaint. Regrettably, instead of finding support, I was confronted with incessant attacks on my character and victim shaming orchestrated by the leaders and volunteers of my own party. A smear campaign was organised in the electronic and social media to undermine my reputation, character and credibility. Due to the lies spread against me, I have been receiving multiple rape and death threats,” she said.
Maliwal had accused Bibhav Kumar of hitting with “full force again and again” in an FIR. She alleged that Bibhav slapped her 7-8 times and kicked her in the chest and abdomen on May 13 when she had gone to meet the chief minister.
Bibhav Kumar has been lodged in jail ever since his arrest on May 27.
